  • WEBSITE:www.nature.com

This cover depicts TopIB in action. It cuts one DNA strand, allow it to swivel around its partner, then rejoin the ends. This removes both positive and negative supercoils. The image shows the dynamics involved, and tells the story of tension and release.

Making it to the cover in this case involved some negotiating with Nature, and even redesigning the color schemes: our original color setup was already up for use by Nature in the previous weeks to this publications. Sometimes an artist has to be a politician too, and change the non-essentials to reach the desired goal.
